Position Details

We are excited to announce an available trainer position for the Fall 26' - Winter 27' Hockey Season! If hired, the applicant will begin staff training as soon as possible. Please note, this is NOT a summer-only position. Our training program is fully staffed for the summer season; this position is to prepare for the upcoming season.

Training for Motor City Hockey comes with high expectations. We are looking for an individual who is the perfect fit for our team and, most importantly, the perfect fit to be around our players. Our program consists of new families to families that have been with us for over 8 consecutive years. Our team of trainers has been with us long-term and has brought tremendous value to our program and the players they instruct. We operate in a team environment in which everyone contributes to the success of our program.

Requirements:

  • Expert-level skater with an extensive background of playing.

  • Exceptional communication and teaching skills with children and adults.

  • Strong desire to make an impact on our players and the hockey community.

  • Extensive knowledge of hockey individual skills and training.

  • High energy, excited to coach, passionate about hockey, innovative, go-getter, self-motivator, creative, and the drive to work in a team environment.

Pay Structure

Pay is hourly. This will be discussed during the interview process. There are many opportunities to earn additional income through our warehouse or by gaining the knowledge and experience to offer other services.

Hiring Process / If Hired

  • Application will be reviewed by our administrative team.

  • We require all social media links for the candidate.

  • Once confirmed as a potential good fit, a FaceTime call will be scheduled with Owner, Rich Mihelic.

  • If the candidate advances, he or she will conduct a formal background check and then join us on the ice and shadow for an on-ice session.

  • Motor City Hockey will then hire the individual, and you will begin formal staff training with Rich Mihelic and Manager, Nick Spinale.

  • Motor City Hockey trains with players 18 years and younger. We train players aged 18 and under, ranging from Learn to Play Hockey to Advanced Travel Hockey.

  • Locations: Bloomfield Hills, Birmingham, Troy, and Sylvan Lake.

Our On-Ice Hours

Please note, these are not the available hours but represent the format of our ice grid. Hours can range from a few hours a week to more.

  • Monday 6-8 PM Bloomfield Hills

  • Thursday 5-6 PM Bloomfield Hills

  • Friday 5-6 PM Bloomfield Hills

  • Saturday 9:15-11:15 AM Bloomfield Hills

  • Saturday 8-12 PM Birmingham

  • Sunday 8-11:30 AM Birmingham

  • Viva La Hockey: off-ice facility in Sylvan Lake. Private lessons, group lessons, and team training are available. Hours are open and a great opportunity for trainers to build additional hours.
